Before I began making sculpture, I collected objects. These are things found in antique stores, objects reappropriated from childhood, found on the street, or in the course of life. My initial attraction to an object is usually unconscious, but overtime the act of collection produces a lexicon of themes, mannerisms, forms and associations born out of the unconscious. Over time this process has evolved to become foundational to my work, as a mode of thinking through ideas materially before producing them as sculpture. Because of this, I think of this work as a kind of sketch that occurs prior to drawing and prior to model making. This is an incomplete archive but gives a general impression of this mode and its relationship to my more formal sculptural practice.
